On Wednesday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain tested positive for Covid-19.
At a time like this such a news creates stress and panic among citizens if their very own health minister falls prey to the infection.
In wake of this situation, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has temporarily taken charge of the health ministry and other departments which were under Jain.
Along with Jain, Aam Aadmi Party MLA, Atishi and two other party leaders, Akshay Marathe and Anindita Mathur also tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.
Marathe is an advisor to CM Arvind Kejriwal and Mathur is an advisor to deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
According to party functionaries, the swab test samples of all three were collected on Tuesday. This was done after they showed mild symptoms.
Doctors have advised home isolation and contact tracing has been initiated as per a health department official.
It was also added that their offices too were sanitized. Delhi government officials said contact tracing for Jain is yet to be done.
Jain had attended a meeting on Sunday chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah along with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.
“Social distancing was strictly adhered to in the meeting but whether others present in the meeting should get tested would depend on what the health officials recommend after the contact tracing exercise,” said a senior government official.
On Tuesday Jain was admitted to the hospital and he had developed the symptoms the previous night.
The minister was admitted to the state-run Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (RGSSH) in the city on Monday night after he developed a fever and his oxygen level dropped.
On Tuesday he also tweeted about the matter
This tweet was followed by another where he updated about his situation
As said by a senior functionary, till Monday Jain had attended several meetings and frequented healthcare centres to take stock of covid healthcare management.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also developed symptoms last week and had been tested. But it was a false alarm. He tested negative for Covid-19.
