During the Corona period, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step to provide employment to the people. State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will create a new record by employing one crore people simultaneously on 26 June.
Not only this, Uttar Pradesh will be the first state in the country which will employ one crore people at one go. Migrant workers who have returned to the state during lockdown will be major beneficiaries.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) is going to be a major contributor assuring over 50 per cent of total jobs being created in Uttar Pradesh.
Apart from MGNREGA, there is a plan to provide large scale employment in many industries, companies and establishments as skilled workers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself will start CM Yogi’s ‘Mission Employment’. This will be the first time after the lockdown that the Prime Minister will participate in a program related to a state. Inaugurating the Prime Minister’s Employment Campaign, he will also talk to the beneficiaries of 6 districts including Gorakhpur, Gonda and Jalaun.
“Uttar Pradesh has about 1.80 crore MNREGA job card holders. Out of them, 85 lakh have been active. About 15 lakh new job cards have been added in the past few months and most of them are migrant labourers,” said Sanjay Dixit, former member of the Union government’s central employment guarantee council.
The Chief Minister had asked authorities to do skill mapping of migrant workers returning to Uttar Pradesh so that they can then be provided work according to their skills.
Besides restoration of rivers, construction of rural roads, digging of ponds and pits for plantation drives and other such work is being carried out under the rural job scheme to provide work to people.
According to state Chief Secretary R. K. Tiwari, “We are roping in all major departments to provide work in addition to jobs being provided under the MGNREGS. The micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) department, public works department, horticulture department and the agencies constructing the expressways will also contribute in a big way in the creation of more jobs.”
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday took a jibe at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the promise of providing one crore jobs to people of the state.
“The Chief Minister made a claim of providing one crore job in a rally but someone go and ask people what they got in their bags,” Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi.
The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) state unit will also give employment to one lakh labourers belonging to the state at various real estate projects.
Last month, NAREDCO-UP had signed an initial pact with the Uttar Pradesh government, offering to provide employment in their real estate projects to migrant labourers who have returned to the state.
Till last week, about 35 lakh migrant labourers had reached different districts of Uttar Pradesh.
