Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that ‘due to the increase in corona cases, a complete lockdown will be implemented in the entire Kamrup metropolitan district, which includes the Guwahati city from midnight on 28 June.
The lockdown will be in effect till 12th July. Three days are given in hand to citizens to gather the required essentials.
Grocery stores, vegetable markets all will be prohibited for the first 7 days.
Private, sub-autonomous, business establishments, private vehicles, transport all will be prohibited.
No pass shall be issued apart from those in flood, covid-19 duty and for emergency needs of patients. Passes will not be issued for any other governmental officers.
All religious places will remain closed and no functions will be allowed. In case of funeral rites not more than 20 persons will be allowed.
Medical stores will remain open during lockdown. He said that a 12-hour curfew will also be applicable in the state from Friday 7pm-7am.
“Areas falling under the jurisdiction of town committees and municipalities will come under the ambit of the weekend lockdown and will continue until further notice,” said Sarma.
The total number of infected people has increased to 6,646 as 276 new corona cases were reported in Assam on Thursday. According to the new figures, so far 4,033 patients have been discharged from hospitals and 2,601 cases are still active. The number of the dead is nine.
