In Rajasthan, an FIR has been lodged against Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Patanjali Ayurved CEO Acharya Balakrishna and three others for claiming corona cure medicine. Patanjali had claimed that the herbal medicine company had discovered a breakdown of Covid-19 by making a medicine called coronil.
This complaint was lodged at Jyoti Nagar Police Station on Friday. Additional Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Jaipur Avnish Parashar said, Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Offensive Advertisement) Act, 1954 against Ramdev, Acharya Balakrishna, Balbir Singh Tomar, Anurag Tomar and Anurag Vashnarya. A case has been registered in the sections. This FIR has been filed by Advocate Balbir Jakhar.
Two of them are chairman and director of NIMS University in Jaipur. At the same time, the fifth accused,Varshney is a scientist at Patanjali Ayurveda.
Jakhar said that by falsely claiming to make Covid-19 vaccine, the accused has endangered the lives of common people. They neither told the Rajasthan government nor the central government about the clinic trial of Coronil.
Patanjali Ayurveda on Tuesday launched coronil tablets and swasari vati medicines and claimed that these medicines can drive away corona in seven days. However, the Ministry of AYUSH was unaware of this and Patanjali had to stop the drug advertisements shortly after its launch.
Patanjali earlier also claimed that the Ayurveda-based medicine has shown 100 per cent favourable results during clinical trials on COVID-19 patients except those on a life support system.
The clinical trials were reportedly held in NIMS Jaipur.
While Ramdev claimed making a thorough clinical case study on patients admitted at NIMS, its Chairman, B.S. Tomar on the other hand said, “No clinical trial in our hospital was made for the drug as there was no serious case of patients admitted. Only 100 asymptomatic patients in our hospital were given a few ayurvedic medicines under the Patanjali banner. We did not ask for medicine to cure coronavirus but had only these ayurvedic immunity boosters who helped recovery of asymptomatic cases faster by 35 per cent.”
