Jaswant Singh, who was a major in the Indian Army, later joined politics. Among the leaders who founded the BJP, Jaswant represented the BJP in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. In the government headed by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he held ministries like defense, foreign and finance between 1996 and 2004. As Finance Minister Jaswant Singh introduced the State Value Added Tax (VAT), which led to more revenue revenue for the states. He also reduced custom duty. In 2014, BJP did not give Singh the ticket for Lok Sabha elections from Barmer. Angered Jaswant left the party and contested as an independent but lost. The same year he suffered severe head injuries, since then he was in a coma.

Plain went to Kandahar after terrorists hijacked

The terrorists who were released included Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, Ahmed Umar Saeed Sheikh and Maulana Masood Azhar. Jaswant had gone to Kandahar regarding these terrorists. After nuclear tests in 1998, the US imposed strict restrictions on India. Then Jaswant spoke to America. During the Kargil war in 1999, his role was also important.

In 2012, the BJP nominated him as the Vice Presidential candidate but lost to UPA’s Hamid Ansari. In his book, Jaswant praised Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The BJP expelled him from the party. He returned in 2010. In 2014, the BJP did not give him the Lok Sabha ticket. The BJP fielded Colonel Sonaram Choudhary from his Barmer seat. After this Jaswant again left the BJP. Independents contested but lost. This year he suffered a head injury. After this, Jaswant was in a coma.
